UPDATE: Statement from co-founder of Red Rose Rescue –
Monica Miglioirno Miller, Ph.D. Citizens for a Pro-Life Society co-founder of Red Rose Rescue
Make no mistake–the incredible injustice of the federal court today is unprecedented in the history of the pro-life movement. Let us recall that for a 20 year period, beginning in the 1970's through the mid-1990s literally hundreds of rescues took place in defense of the unborn and thousands of pro-lifers were arrested. Even those few who continued to participate in rescues after The FACE law was signed by Clinton in 1994– never endured the gross, unspeakable injustice that occurred today! The jury convicted the rescuers of FACE–and "conspiracy to interfere with civil rights"; the latter charge carrys a ten year prison term. The sentencing will not occur until the next four rescuers are tried beginning Sept. 6– yet they were all immediately hauled off to federal prison–because the jury found these pro-lifers guilty of using "violence" in their "physical obstruction" preventing "ingress and egress to a medical facility that provides "reproductive health care"–aka. abortions.
I was in court observing this trial for seven days. I watched video after video of this rescue–and these proplifers never engaged in any violence on any level! Indeed, they were subjected to violence from the Washington Surgi-Clinic staff–shoved, pushed and beaten with a broomstick! We must show our support for Handy, Hinshaw, Idoni, Goodman and Geraghty and in no way be daunted or intimidated by this weaponized DOJ! Peaceful rescues of the unborn must continue!
Short excerpt below, but hit the link.
Verdicts were handed down today in the federal trial of five pro-life activists – Lauren Handy, Will Goodman, John Hinshaw, Heather Idoni, and Herb Geraghty – who were charged with conspiracy against rights and FACE Act violations. The jury found all of the defendants guilty of both charges.
The defendants were indicted for their participation in an October 2020 rescue action at the D.C.-based Washington Surgi-Clinic (WSC), the abortion facility run by Cesare Santangelo. Santangelo was featured in Live Action’s InHuman investigation stating that if a child was born alive at his facility during an abortion, “we would not help it.”
Two defendants – Lauren Handy and Herb Geraghty – cited Live Action’s InHuman video as informing their belief that abortion survivors might be being left to die at WSC, which in turn motivated their decision to participate in the rescue action at Santangelo’s facility.
However, calling the video “gossip from propagandists” (despite the fact that the video showed the abortionist in his own words) presiding Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly would not allow the video itself to be admitted into evidence.
The Judge is an eighty year old woman whose education from high school through law school was in Catholic institutions.
