Women’s Equality Day Reformed this past Friday – Great!

The 12th annual WED REFORMED commemorated 93 years of women's suffrage and the legacy of the original feminists. The REFORMED part? For 28 years the County's Women's Equality Day blacklisted prolife women, refusing to recognize their personal and professional achievements!

This year's event was wonderful, with 2008 School of Art & Design, SUNY Purchase graduate and entrepreneur Martina Marie Parisi honored as the author of Choice, and Harlem activist Barbara Stinson offering a rousing keynote address. County Legislators Michael Smith and Sheila Marcotte were in attendance, two of the four legislators who sponsored the event (the others were Gordon Burrows and John Testa), allowing for the use of the county legislator's conference room in the County space in the Michaelian Building.

With County Executive Rob Astorino's return to the U.S. delayed, Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett pinch hit for him, giving Ms. Parisi a County Proclamation in the Executive offices.

Then it was down to the Legislators' 8th floor conference room – and what a great keynote by Barbara Stinson, who was introduced by her daughter, BeBe. Barbara gave an intense and marvelous talk.

There's more, which we will be posting. Here is Ms. Parisi, with family members, and her Mott-Stanton-Anthony Award, honoring her as Women's Equality Day Reformed's 2013 Woman of the Year.
