Furthermore, the<br \/>\nimpression is given that the error is positively condoned by the bishop and the<br \/>\nChurch. This is very dis-couraging to the faithful. In such a case, private<br \/>\n\u2018dialogue\u2019 is certainly appropriate but a public statement is also needed. In<br \/>\nextreme cases, excommunication may be deemed necessary.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u201cFailing to name error because of some kind of fear of offending the person<br \/>\nin error is neither compassion nor charity,\u201d he continues. \u201cConfronting or<br \/>\nchallenging the error or evil of another is never easy yet it must be done.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">\u201cThe Lord has called bishops to be shepherds. That shepherding entails both<br \/>\nleading and protecting. In an era when error runs rampant and false teachings<br \/>\nabound, the voice of the Holy Father rings clear and true. The teachings of the<br \/>\nChurch are well documented and consistent.
