She never wavered from<br \/>\nthis goal, even this year calling upon \u201call grass-roots pro-lifers and<br \/>\ngovernment officials to unite because any abortion is untenable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/nellie-gray\/\">Nellie<\/a><br \/>\nfirst learned of abortion while reading a novel that described an<br \/>\nabortion in which the baby was partially delivered and his skull<br \/>\ncrushed. That vivid picture of the brutality of abortion stayed fresh in<br \/>\nher mind, so it is not surprising that she, like so many of us, was<br \/>\ndevastated when in 1973 the Supreme Court legalized abortion right up<br \/>\nuntil the moment of birth. Years later, she wrote in a letter, \u201cBy<br \/>\nabortion, a pregnant mother is hurt and a preborn is a torn-apart<br \/>\ncorpse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/nellie-gray\/\">Nellie<\/a>\u2019s life was characterized by service to her country. She served as a corporal in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/womens-army-corps\/\">Women&#39;s Army Corps<\/a><br \/>\nin World War II and earned an undergraduate business degree, a master\u2019s<br \/>\ndegree in economics and a law degree. She worked as a civil servant in<br \/>\nthe Departments of State and Labor for 28 years.
