If there were<br \/>\nno one-child policy, I would have two or three children.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>\u2018When<br \/>\nI was serving in the army, I was promoted to the rank of officer,\u2019 said<br \/>\nMo Yan. \u2018There was another officer in the army who lost his<br \/>\nrank\u2026because he had a second child. If it were not<br \/>\nfor my own selfish ambition, I would have let my wife have a second or<br \/>\neven a third baby. I used a very high-sounding rationale to convince her<br \/>\nwe needed to abort the baby: we had to follow the Party\u2019s policy and<br \/>\nnation\u2019s policy.
