A Proclamation from Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett began the day as over 30 attendees celebrated 93 years of women’s voting rights,including previous Honorees Dorothea Muccigrosso and Christine Mortell Plazas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2013 Mott-Stanton-Anthony Awardee, Martina Marie Parisi, impressed all with her poise and entrepreneurial talents in self-publishing her artistic and researched book Choice. <\/em><\/strong>Here are more pictures, video and text version of most of the day…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On
\nbehalf of this year\u2019s Women\u2019s Equality Day Reformed Committee, welcome and
\nthank you again for taking time to be with us to celebrate the historic
\nanniversary of women\u2019s voting rights.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our
\nceremony today is in memory of the late Ingrid Climis, a friend and stalwart
\npro-life woman of exceptional distinction. We also remember the late Kevin
\nRielly who with his daughter Maura by his side, courageously battled illness to
\nthe end. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We
\nwish to now acknowledge those members of the County Board of Legislators here
\nwith us today, and we invite them to say a few words: The Honorable, Sheila
\nMarcotte District 10 and Michael Smith District 3. The Hon. Gordon A. Burrows
\nand John G. Testa support WEDR, but were unable to attend today. Sponsorship
\nand attendance by at least one member of the Board is a rule of the BofL and
\nallows us this space under equal access and free speech.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our
\nthanks, too, to Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett who presented our
\nHonoree with a Proclamation just prior to this ceremony. Rob Astorino
\napologized that his return home from Ireland was delayed. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme this year is<\/span> \u201cThe Feminist Legacy: Defined by
\n\u201cChoice\u201d or Truth?\u201d<\/span><\/em> We want to explore
\nthe true legacy of feminism put further at risk in New York by Gov. Cuomo\u2019s
\nWomen\u2019s Equality Act. This narrowly won battle for life, and its intended
\nconsequences for women, challenge us all to speak and act boldly. Being here
\ntoday counts, so share the experience with others.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As
\nmost of you know in 2006 Carol Crossed, President of the <\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Susan
\nB. Anthony Birthplace Museum, purchased the original Susan B. Anthony house in
\nAdams, Massachusetts for the museum. It is teaching true feminism<\/span> daily
\nat their location and website www.susanbanthonybirthplace.com<\/a>.
\nWhat do we mean by this?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Judy)            <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This
\nyear we listened in shock as Gov. Cuomo addressed 150 people at Wesleyan Chapel
\nat the Women\u2019s Rights National Historical Park, the site of the first Women\u2019s
\nRights Convention in July 1848. He used Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the
\nwoman\u2019s movement, as a platform to push his Women\u2019s Equality Act; an Act that
\nincluded the most sweeping abortion expansion since Roe vs. Wade; an Act that
\nwould have codified infanticide; an Act that held hostage by its abortion
\nplank, concrete ideas for women\u2019s betterment in society, with legislation
\nagainst sexual harassment, human trafficking, pregnancy and housing discrimination,
\nequal pay for equal work. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To
\nchallenge this affront to the facts and true feminist legacy, Carol Crossed
\nspoke these words, quoted in Kathryn Jean Lopez\u2019 NRO piece entitled Andrew
\nCuomo\u2019s History Problem<\/em>. In it Carol accused Gov. Cuomo of \u201cdesecrating\u201d
\n\u201choly ground\u201d by \u201cadvancing abortion in Seneca Falls.\u201d Carol also said,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cthe
\nsuffragists, even when they lacked birth control, education and work
\nopportunities, condemned abortion in the strongest terms, calling the practice \u2018child-murder\u2019,
\n\u2018infanticide\u2019, and \u2018pre-natal murder\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because
\nslavery and women\u2019s inequality were abuses of humans as \u2018property\u2019, Elizabeth
\nCady Stanton said, \u201cWhen we [women] are considered the property of men, we
\ncannot treat our children as our property to destroy as we see fit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They
\nalso believed women needed the resources to support their children, not
\n\u2018access\u2019 to destroy them.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides
\nthe taking of a child\u2019s life, the suffragists said abortion allowed or
\nencouraged the promiscuity of men. The recent scandal in the NY State
\nLegislature where the Speaker of the Assembly Silver (D) silenced sexually
\nharassed women with payoffs with government money is a case in point. Abortion
\naccess and expansion by Cuomo and government leaders is another inducement to
\nallow men to take advantage of women.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lopez
\ncontinued, \u201cCrossed calls the governor\u2019s invocation of the suffragettes as
\ncover for his abortion expansion \u201chistorically inaccurate.\u201d Forty years into Roe<\/em>,
\nwe should be ashamed of ourselves as Americans for not doing more to protect
\nunborn innocent life and helping women feel like they can choose motherhood as
\ncrisis-pregnancy centers and maternity homes do. Instead, Andrew Cuomo
\ncampaigns for abortion expansion in a state where the numbers of pregnancies that
\nend in abortion are miserably high, misrepresenting not only his legislation,
\nbut history along the way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nefforts remind us of our inspiring recipients of the Mott-Stanton-Anthony
\naward. You will find all their names on your program and many of you will
\nremember when they were with us on this day recalling our role models in
\nhistory.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagine.
\nWe celebrate 93 years of women\u2019s full citizenship in the American Experiment
\nknowing that our founding foremothers, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony and
\nElizabeth Cady Stanton, did not live to see it themselves. Their love of truth
\nand its intimate connection to freedom, however, permeates the genuine feminism
\nand the self-sacrificing humanism pro-life feminists follow today.<\/span> <\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge
\nof the true feminist legacy is sadly being overshadowed by lies and falsehoods
\nand aggressive advancement of the \u201cchoice\u201d of abortion. This destruction of
\ninnocent human life continues to hurt women, too. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choice<\/span><\/em> is also the name of the book written by our 2013
\nWoman of the Year. By contrast, it implicitly draws one to the life-giving
\nchoice of offering one\u2019s life for another, exercising the highest form of love
\nand of freedom known. Many ordinary people sacrifice everyday for the needs of
\ntheir family, friends, or community. Their choice is a participation in the
\nGood and the True, the One and the Beautiful. Such choice of the good opens
\nthem to greater freedom \u2013 freedom in the truest sense of the word.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbara\u2019s  <\/span>partner in her radio ministry is Bebe
\nDiamond, her daughter. Their joint project is a manifestation of their Faith in
\nTruth Incarnate. Barbara is the proud mother of five grown children. She
\nreceived her college degree magna cum laude from the College of New Rochelle
\nwhere the Reverend spread the light of truth to many souls unwittingly, we are
\ncertain. She is a great radio friend of Mark Levin and a unique radio
\npersonality in her own right with her weekly show on WMCA, 570 AM, 9 p.m. on
\nWednesdays. She is a friend of Rev. Clenard Childress, a friend and previous
\nspeaker at Women\u2019s Equality Day Reformed. May I present Bebe Diamond to

Ms.
\nParisi is the holder of a BFA in graphic design from the School of Art and
\nDesign at the State University of New York, Purchase. She is the founder of
\nSilently Screaming Designs, a company that creates customized and affordable
\ninvitations, party goods, stationery and handmade goods.<\/span> <\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly
\nafter graduation, Martina re-wrote and published her book, Choice<\/em>. This
\ncomprehensive and carefully documented educational tool is also a feast for the
\neyes, with all 140 pages in full-color and with extraordinary medical
\nphotography on every page.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martina
\npreviously worked as the Assistant Director of Marketing at Mercy College and
\ncurrently serves as Art Director at Visual Profile Books in New York City.<\/span>            <\/span>            <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martina
\nrecently was trained by Dr. Nanci Coppola, our 2011 WEDR Honoree to teach the
\nHealthy Respect Program. She will be implementing it into the 8th<\/sup>
\ngrade curriculum at St. Eugene\u2019s School in Yonkers this coming fall.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She
\nis also treasurer of the parish\u2019s Catholic Daughters of America through which
\nshe participates in various charitable works. Let\u2019s welcome the remarkable
\nMartina Marie Parisi.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
